Galtier Magnet Elementary School, in the historic Midway area of St. Paul, provides the setting for our dynamic learning community with an emphasis on Science, Math and Technology. Our location at the midpoint between downtown St. Paul and Minneapolis provides our students with the wealth of resources that only an urban educational experience can offer. At Galtier Magnet, the academic program focuses on developing highly literate mathematicians and scientists. Students are skilled in using technology and cross curricular strategies in a safe, enriching, and collaborative learning environment. Students learn critical thinking skills through hands on learning activities. Galtier staff have been empowered by professional development provided by the Reading First Grant and the Project for Academic Excellence. Research based Balanced Literacy instruction is expertly delivered by highly trained and dedicated staff in Reader’s and Writer’s Workshops. SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS

Marvelous Volunteers: Margo Friedman ( Winner of a Tanks of Thanks gift card from Cenex) and Sarah Nowlin
Margo Friedman and Sarah Nowlin are exemplary volunteers at Galtier Elementary School. They set up and organized our school library so our students could check out books. Old books were weeded, new books were purchased often with their own money at Half Priced Books and the entire atmosphere of the area changed to exciting! Their warm smiles and encouraging words guide the students as they pick their favorite books. Margo and Sarah come two days a week (for the last 2 years and we hope many more) so the students can use our school library to its fullest extent.
